Print Menu

General Tab:

Print only one copy and indicate the pages desired - in this case we are printing all pages in the file.

Unless you want to print spreads, do not choose this option.

Spreads are not recommended for print purposes, but if your end result was to be a web-based PDF, you may want to choose spreads if your pages have crossover text or images.

Do not choose to print non-printing objects or blank pages.

Setup Tab:

Choose an appropriate printer description - preferably ask your printer to provide theirs to you. The Adobe PDF printer description will work best on files that you will be Distilling for a PDF release.

Select a page size that is one inch larger than your trim to accommodate marks and bleeds. In this example, our trim will be 8-1/2” x 11”, so we’re going to choose a 9-1/2”x12” page size. Make sure your width and height will match the orientation you choose (portrait).

Select 100% width and height.

Page Positioning should be centered.

Marks and Bleed Tab:

Select the minimum marks needed - usually, the crops, registration and page information are all that are necessary.

Default marks at quarter point weight.

Choose an offset equal to .156 points.

Choose 1/8” bleeds (.125”) all around.

Output Tab:

When you choose the inks manager button, a window comes up that will allow you to double-check printable inks in your file. Make sure there are no inks listed that should not be here.

Select composite CMYK even if you’re to have spot colors in the final output.

Do not flip pages.
