Check your colors:
Under “All Colors” you will see all of the colors in your file - if you choose the other options, such as “Spot Colors”, you will see all colors that are going to print on separate plates.
If your job is to be a process color job, then all spot colors should be edited and the process option chosen in the color menu. If a color is not used, it should be deleted from the color palette.

Print Menu
Layout Tab:
Print only one copy and indicate the pages desired - in this case we are printing all pages in the file. Unless you want to print separations or spreads, do not choose these options. Spreads are not recommended for print purposes, but if your end result was to be a web-based PDF, you may want to choose spreads if your pages have crossover text or images. Choose to have the registration marks centered with 12 point offset. |

Setup Tab:
Choose an appropriate printer description - preferably ask your printer to provide theirs to you. The Adobe PDF printer description will work best on files that you will be Distilling for a PDF release.
Select a page size that is one inch larger than your trim to accommodate marks and bleeds. In this example, our trim will be 8-1/2” x 11”, so we’re going to choose a 9-1/2”x12” page size. Make sure your width and height will match the orientation chosen below.
Select 100% in the reduction/enlargement field and never choose to fit in print area.
Page Positioning should be centered and the orientation should be for portrait (left icon). |

Output Tab:
Select composite CMYK even if you’re to have spot colors in the final output.
Choose conventional screening and your resolution should be 2540 with 400lpi screen frequency. |

Options Tab:
There shall be no flipping of the pages.
Select normal output, binary data and full resolution tiff output. |

Layers Tab:
Choose to print only layers that contain valid information. |

Bleed Tab:
Select a symmetric 1/8” bleed. (.125”)
Clip at bleed edge will end any oversized boxes at .125” regardless of how far they may extend beyond the edge of the page. |

OPI Tab:
If you have this option, do not choose to activate it. |

Preview Tab:
View the preview and make sure the page fits within the area indicated. Double-check all settings. |

Printer button:
When you click the printer button, a box comes up with a drop-down menu. From this menu, choose Output Options. Select “Save as file” and choose the PostScript Option.
Save your file. |
